India's coffee belt runs along the Western and Eastern Ghats, spanning three states with distinct microclimates, altitudes, and flavour signatures. Here's how they compare for buyers evaluating origin. For a full state-by-state breakdown, see our coffee-producing states guide.
Karnataka — India's Coffee Heartland
Karnataka produces the majority of India's coffee, centered on Coorg, Chikmagalur, and Hassan. High-altitude Arabica here carries chocolate, caramel, and citrus notes, while Robusta from the same estates is prized for body and crema. Explore our Karnataka exporter page for grade-level detail.
Kerala — Monsoon-Influenced Robusta
Kerala's Wayanad district is India's largest Robusta-producing region, benefiting from heavy monsoon rainfall that shapes a bold, full-bodied cup — the backbone of much of India's Monsooned Malabar production.
Tamil Nadu — High-Altitude Nilgiris
The Nilgiris and Anamalai hills produce smaller volumes but at some of India's highest coffee altitudes, yielding bright, well-balanced Arabica that specialty buyers increasingly seek out for single-origin lots.
Sourcing Across Regions
Most export programmes blend across these regions for consistency, or select single-origin lots for specialty buyers. Our exporter overview outlines how we source across all three.
