Protecting Quality From Farm to Port to You
Coffee is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture and odours from its surroundings. On a 20–35 day sea voyage, the wrong packaging can degrade a carefully processed lot before it ever reaches your roastery or warehouse.
LIT COFFEE selects packaging based on your product form, destination climate, and transit time — from standard jute for shorter routes to hermetic GrainPro liners for long or humid voyages.
Every shipment is also container-loaded to keep bags stable and ventilated, reducing the risk of condensation damage ("container sweat") during transit.
Standard Bag Weights
Bag weight and packaging type can be customised per order — specify your preference when requesting a quote.
Choose the Right Packaging for Your Route
Jute Bags (Standard)
Traditional 50kg or 60kg jute bags — breathable, cost-effective, and the industry standard for green coffee shipped in dry conditions or shorter transit routes.
Best for: Shorter transit (under 20 days), dry-climate destinations
Jute Bag + GrainPro Liner
A jute bag with an inner GrainPro (or Ecotact) hermetic liner that blocks moisture and oxygen exchange, preserving green coffee quality over long or humid transit routes.
Best for: Long transit routes (25+ days), humid destination climates, specialty-grade lots
Vacuum-Sealed Multi-Wall Bags
Used primarily for roasted coffee and instant coffee — foil-lined multi-wall bags with a one-way degassing valve where applicable, protecting flavour and shelf life.
Best for: Roasted coffee, instant coffee, retail-adjacent bulk shipments
How Many Bags Fit Per Container
Approximate figures — actual capacity depends on bag dimensions, stacking pattern, and any dunnage or bracing used.

| 40ft Standard | 60kg jute bags | ~640–680 bags | ~38–40 MT |
| 40ft Standard | 50kg jute bags | ~760–800 bags | ~38–40 MT |

Guarding Against Condensation & Humidity
Packaging & Loading — Frequently Asked Questions
What is a GrainPro liner and do I need one?
A GrainPro liner is a hermetically sealed inner bag placed inside the jute outer bag. It blocks moisture and oxygen transfer during transit, which matters most on long routes (25+ days) or to humid destinations, where standard jute alone can allow the coffee to pick up moisture or lose quality. For shorter, drier routes, standard jute bags are usually sufficient.
How many 60kg bags fit in a 20ft container?
A 20ft standard container typically holds around 320–340 bags of 60kg green coffee, for a total of roughly 19–20 metric tons, depending on bag dimensions and how the load is stacked.
How many bags fit in a 40ft container?
A 40ft standard container typically holds around 640–680 bags of 60kg coffee, or roughly double the 20ft capacity — approximately 38–40 metric tons.
Does LIT COFFEE offer both 50kg and 60kg bag sizes?
Yes — we can pack in either 50kg or 60kg jute bags depending on your preference or your destination country's customary unit. Let us know your requirement when requesting a quote.
How is roasted or instant coffee packaged differently from green coffee?
Roasted and instant coffee are more sensitive to oxygen and light, so they're typically packed in foil-lined multi-wall bags or cartons rather than jute, sometimes with a one-way degassing valve for freshly roasted beans. Container loading capacity is measured by carton volume rather than bag count for these product forms.
Can I request custom packaging or private-label bags?
Yes — for private-label or retail-facing orders, we can pack in custom bag sizes and branding. See our private-label-coffee-manufacturing-india page for details on that process.
Does packaging affect the CIF or FOB quote?
Yes, slightly — GrainPro liners and custom packaging add a modest per-kg cost compared to standard jute. This is itemised separately in your quote so you can see the packaging cost alongside the coffee price.
